Durga Puja pandal hopping at night in Kolkata |
My way to remain healthy during the festive season is to indulge once or twice during the festive days. Those who keep fast during Navratri should reduce oily varieties. Eating lots dip-fried items after fast is the worst crime one commits against self. So if you keep fast break it with a glass some slices of apples or your favourite fruit. Don't start grabbing your festive delicacies just after the fast. That way you will harm your bodies metabolism. Because during fast you stomach and the liver were taking rest and it takes some time to get back into action. So be gentle to your organs.
Traditional festive dishes including preparations of navratri are loaded with calories. But you can prepare tasty alternatives with sprout salads, fruit salad with curd etc. They will be gentle to your stomach and will not add extra calories.
In Kolkata, indulging in tyraditional misties(sweets) are something that people cannot do without. Besides these sweets there are phooskas, loochies, different preparations of meat and fish etc are available at anywhere and everywhere. So one needs to work hard to avoid those. But you can indulge in all these things. My tip is have everything in small portions and to burn the calories take an extra hour of walk, of course with your friends, so that you don't skip the addas for the walk.
It is sure that you are going to a pandal hopping spree during nights but be careful to carry drinking water to keep yourself hydrated. Do not indulge in unnecessary snacking. Get your stomach full in the first half of the night with freshest of delicacies and ensure you burn till the last drop of calory untill midnight.
